New Patient Information on Insurance

Chinese medicine and insurance for the new patientNot many Health Care Insurers consider acupuncture, massage or herbal formulas for treatment of disorders or disease.  Currently there  are three Insurers that we know who do offer insured reimbursement for theses services. However, there are many benefit plans and not all cover these services  to the same degree. You also should recognize that different administration of these benefit plans may change the coverage benefits at any time.

The three insurers that have monetary reimbursement for Acupuncture and Massage are Auto – No Fault,  United Health Care, and Aetna.

Other insurers may cover these services, but it is on an individual basis and you must Verify the extent of the coverage available.  If you have a “self Insured plan”  or a union plan, there are many times that you may obtain authorization to cover all or part of acupuncture or massage services. This depends on the company.  Many larger companies self insure as one option among  other insurers offered.

In all cases,  you must pay for  services at the time of the visit.

We will help you complete the appropriate forms to submit for  the insurer to reimburse you directly.

Remember that ,  your insurer requires that any deductible  be met before you are eligible for reimbursement and that you are also responsible for co-payment  if we can arrange for assignment directly from the insurer.

Insurance Questions and Answers for Patients

Holistic Paths insurance questions and answersQ. How do I know if my policy covers your services?

A. Your policy or your company manual explains your benefits. It will usually tell you who  can provide the service ( Acupuncturist, massage therapist , physician, Physical Therapist etc.).

How much may be subject to reimbursement depends on the insurer. Each policy , if they reimburse for services is different in the extent of  deductible and  co- insurance  or co-payment

 Q. Do you accept assignment?

At this time, we only accept insurance assignment for  auto no-fault accidents

We will work with you to determine whether you may be covered and if we are able to accept assignment from your medical plan insurer.

 Q. When do I bring in  the information I got when I called  my company benefits manager, medical carrier or found in my health care plan discussion of benefits handbook.

A. To know if and what insurance will possibly reimburse for the services you require, you can bring this information in on your first visit.

Q. How often do I submit medical bills to the insurer?

      A. If we cannot arrange for direct reimbursement ( accept assignment) you should submit your bills immediately to the insurance company to receive payment within 60 days.

If you have any  additional questions, will be happy to answer them.
