Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture therapy affective for all ages

Acupuncture can be an affective treatment for all ages from the very young to the elderly.

Acupuncture as a  therapeutic modality does not add anything into our vital systems like the therapeutic use of an herb or drug. It does not physically take anything of substance out of us either, like surgical removal of  an organ part, cyst, polyps or tumor.  For this reason it is a rather elegant treatment for the ills of the body and mind.

Acupuncture’s dominant function is its ability to access our own regulatory control processes to help restore our  vital functions  to their normal rhythms and cycles.

We constantly have cycles that include regeneration and degeneration at the cellular, tissue , organ and  whole person levels. This is part of the natural process of  living.

Acupuncture helps remove the impediments so a natural flow can be restored.

From a contemporary biological science perspective, disorders in physiological functions or physical diseases and injuries  are resolved by a complex set of responses in our body. These responses are coordinated by a host of  signaling and control systems.

There is good evidence that Acupuncture affects both the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and the Hypothalamus – Pituitary – Adrenal – Ovarian Axis (HPA-O) .  A primary route is through both the nervous and connective tissue systems and release of signaling , neurotransmitters and related hormones. This stimulation of multiple signaling systems in the body-mind sets the stage for increasing the rate of the body’s own healing response to a disorder , disease or injury.

The HPA  and ANS make connections to every system in the body and each systems  own individual  regulatory processes down to the cellular level.  This is why we see such wide ranging positive clinical effects with acupuncture across so many states and stages of disorder.

The most important concept here is that the balance between order and disorder is dynamic. They are two poles of a cycle that we live through every minute of every day. We are constantly undergoing growth, development, repair and maintenance on the physical, emotional,  and mental levels.

For many disorders and diseases, Acupuncture may be sufficient to reverse the process leading to disorder and  reduce or eliminate  physical, emotional and mental effects of disease.

Our Stress response system is defined by both the ANS and the HPA. It is no wonder that Acupuncture is  effective in disorders that are stress related.

When we use this neuroendocrine model we recognize that Acupuncture affects the Amygdala ( the emotional brain ) as well. This has practical utilization in   classical psychological and mood associated disorders.

Of most importance is the recognition that  there is  a preventive nature to our regulatory systems at all levels.  Changes in the ability of these systems (their fitness, or robustness) to meet the demands of our relationship with the environment and our personal stresses create additional disorder.

For most of us, disorder on this level is not detectable or asymptomatic until  we experience discomfort.

The real dynamics of life tells us that everything rebuilds in the human body. Change is the only thing that remains  constant.  The majority of the body’s cells replace within the span of one year. For example, blood , which is one of our main energy flows in the body renews within one month.  White blood cells that take  part in the regulation  of the immune functions turn over within about the same time. The stomach lining replaces completely within 24 hours.

By using  our Acupuncture services to promote a healthy  restoration  of the fitness level for our regulatory systems and for the renewal process at a cellular level  we can help assure that our  body’s are rebuilding at a high quality level.

Our Acupuncture services are designed to address the body’s functioning on all of these levels.
